Monitor Arms & Mounts: what to check before buying

Choose a monitor arm by fit and mounting location. Check VESA pattern, screen weight and adjustment clearance before buying.

Check VESA pattern and the supported weight range

Compare your monitor’s mounting-hole pattern and weight without its original stand against the arm’s specifications. Screen diagonal alone is not enough. Spring-assisted arms can have minimum as well as maximum weight requirements, so check the full supported range for each screen.

Choose desk or wall mounting and screen count

A desk clamp needs a compatible surface and sufficient clearance, while a wall mount requires an appropriate mounting structure and installation hardware. For dual or triple monitor arms, check per-screen limits, screen widths and adjustment range. Confirm that the arms can place the monitors where you need them without colliding with the wall or each other.

Monitor Arms & Mounts FAQs
Will a monitor arm fit my screen?

Check VESA mounting pattern, monitor weight, supported screen dimensions and any recessed mounting area. All relevant requirements must match.

Is the weight limit for each monitor or the whole mount?

Check the manufacturer’s wording for the exact model. Multi-monitor mounts may specify per-arm and total limits; do not substitute one for the other.

Can I attach a desk clamp to any worktop?

No. Check material, thickness, edge clearance and the manufacturer’s restrictions. Do not assume a glass, hollow or unusually shaped surface is suitable.

Should I buy a gas-spring or mechanical-spring arm?

Compare the supported weight range, adjustment features and installation requirements of the particular models. Choose the mechanism and range that suit your screen and placement needs.
