A hub or dock can add several connections, while a dedicated adapter addresses a specific connection need. Start with a list of your computer ports and the peripherals or displays you want to connect. Extension cables and PCIe expansion cards require their own checks for distance, power, slots and driver support.
Match the signal and supported features
A connector’s shape does not guarantee video, charging or a particular data rate. Check the exact accessory’s system requirements, supported operating systems and drivers. Thunderbolt and USB-C requirements must be checked separately. For display connections, confirm the signal direction, resolution and refresh rate supported by the full setup.

Can a USB adapter charge my laptop?
Only if the adapter supports suitable charging and the laptop, charger and cable meet its requirements. A data adapter is not automatically a laptop charger.
Do these accessories require drivers?
